Give your builder the other half of the business

Put product, growth, and company context where the agent doing the work can use it – without turning strategy into another stale knowledge base.

Ben Sufiani · The article: Why Growth Strategy Belongs in Your Codebase

Product context alone is not enough

A coding agent can see the interface, the database, and the payment logic. It cannot infer the positioning, the quarter's priorities, or the reason one customer matters more than another unless those decisions are available too.

Ben treats that missing context as the growth half of the product. Bringing it beside the build lets the same agent challenge a feature, write a page, and connect both to the plan.

“In the codebase, there is just the builder part. It's like only giving the agent half of the brain that it needs.”
Ben Sufiani

Start with a few plain files

The practical setup is modest: what the business is, who is on the team, the long-term direction, the current goals, and the beginnings of an acquisition strategy. Markdown is enough.

The point is not to design the perfect second brain. It is to give the current agent a reliable source it can read, change transparently, and carry into the next decision.

“It's all just text and files.”

Capture the thought before it becomes a forgotten note

During real work, Ben can tell the agent that an idea matters and ask it to place the thought in the right project file. The strategy changes while the discovery is still fresh.

Version history makes the change inspectable. He sees what was added and removed, which creates more trust than a hidden rewrite inside a general knowledge tool.

Strategy becomes useful when it reaches the queue

The context layer connects to Linear, where goals become projects and weekly work. The agent can inspect what is in progress, propose the next task, and leave the history for a later session.

That is where product and growth finally meet: the article, the landing page, the newsletter, and the product change all inherit the same direction instead of being planned in separate rooms.

“This brings my fancy-pants strategy into my weekly doing. Here is where building and growing goes hand in hand.”
