Pirate Skills has three currencies. Gold pays for the Captain, emerald is your pass and a diamond is an hour with Ben. Here is how you get each one – and what 500 gold a month actually buys.
Every answer from the Captain, the AI in the Lab, costs a little gold, and so does every tool call your own agent makes over MCP or the API. You get 500 gold a month just for being signed in, and earn more by taking part.
Not a balance you spend: the emerald is the Pirate Pass or the Forge Pass. It is how you give something back to the crew, and it raises your monthly gold to 3,000 gold or 10,000 gold.
One diamond books one hour with Ben, one to one. A Captain on Deck session brings a diamond, and a friend you bring who joins the Forge earns you one. Diamonds never expire.
Once, the first time you say what you are building.

Gold's two clocks
Monthly gold refills on the 1st
On the first of every month what is left of last month's allowance goes, and the full allowance lands again: 500 gold, 3,000 gold with the Pirate Pass, 10,000 gold with the Forge Pass. You always spend the monthly gold first.
Earned gold keeps for twelve months
Gold you earn by showing up, taking a quiz or bringing a friend stays in your wallet for twelve months, oldest first. Your wallet shows when some of it runs out next.
Questions, answered
Can I buy gold?
No. Gold comes from the monthly refill and from taking part. If you need more every month, a pass raises the refill – the Forge Pass to 10,000 gold.
What happens when my gold runs out?
The Captain pauses until the refill on the 1st, or until you earn more – register for an event and it starts coming back. Agent tool calls pause the same way.
Where do I see my gold?
In your wallet in the Lab: the balance, this month's allowance, what you earned, what expires next and every answer and tool call it paid for.
