# Quickstart

Three calls without an account – list the tools, see what's on, search the Codex – then one as yourself with an API key.

## 1. List the tools

```bash
curl https://pirateskills.com/api/public/agent/tools
```

A visitor sees the public tools, each with its input as JSON Schema. Listing is free and never costs gold.

## 2. Run a public tool

```bash
curl -X POST https://pirateskills.com/api/public/agent/tools/list_events \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -d '{"limit": 3}'
curl "https://pirateskills.com/api/public/agent/tools/search_knowledge?query=landing%20page&limit=2"
```

A tool that only reads also works as a GET with the input in the query string – handy in a browser.

## 3. Act as yourself

Make a key ([Sign-in and API keys](https://pirateskills.com/docs/sign-in)), put it in `PIRATESKILLS_API_KEY`, and the same call runs as you. Each call costs 1 gold.

```bash
curl -X POST https://pirateskills.com/api/public/agent/tools/my_wallet \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $PIRATESKILLS_API_KEY" \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -d '{"limit": 5}'
```
