# The MCP server

For agents and AI apps: every tool over the Model Context Protocol, at one address. Listed in the official MCP registry as com.pirateskills/pirateskills.

Streamable HTTP · Sign-in or API key · 17 tools

## The address

```text
https://pirateskills.com/mcp
```

The public tools work before anyone signs in. A tool about the person asks them to sign in with their Pirate Skills account when it is called.

## In an assistant

The step-by-step for each app, with screenshots of the menus, is on [/agents](https://pirateskills.com/agents). In short:

| App | Where |
| --- | --- |
| Claude | **Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector**, then Connect |
| ChatGPT | **Settings → Plugins → MCPs → Add MCP server**, Streamable HTTP, then Authenticate |
| Claude Code | `claude mcp add --transport http --scope user pirateskills https://pirateskills.com/mcp` |
| Codex | `codex mcp add pirateskills --url https://pirateskills.com/mcp`, then `codex mcp login pirateskills` |
| Cursor | The **Add to Cursor** button on [/agents](https://pirateskills.com/agents?client=cursor) |

## Headless: a cloud session or CI

No browser to sign in with? Send your API key as a header instead.

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http pirateskills https://pirateskills.com/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $PIRATESKILLS_API_KEY"
codex mcp add pirateskills --url https://pirateskills.com/mcp \
  --bearer-token-env-var PIRATESKILLS_API_KEY
```

## Cursor with a key

In `.cursor/mcp.json`. Leave out `headers` to sign in in the browser instead.

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "pirateskills": {
      "url": "https://pirateskills.com/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${env:PIRATESKILLS_API_KEY}" }
    }
  }
}
```

## Discovery

- The official MCP registry: [com.pirateskills/pirateskills](https://registry.modelcontextprotocol.io/v0/servers?search=com.pirateskills%2Fpirateskills).
- The server and its tools without speaking MCP: [/.well-known/mcp.json](https://pirateskills.com/.well-known/mcp.json) and the server card at [/mcp/server-card](https://pirateskills.com/mcp/server-card).
- Only want to look things up? The [public door](https://pirateskills.com/docs/mcp-docs) has the search and the events, and needs no sign-in.

## The admin door

`/mcp/admin` is for the Pirate Skills team only. An ordinary key or sign-in gets a not-found, and big changes still wait for a click on our admin page. Nothing in these docs opens it.
